Sample blessings

Parents and Grandparents may share personal blessings that they have written.

Children can draw their blessings and present them to baby or you can hang them as part of the celebration's decor.

God, thank you for this beautiful baby, perfect in every way.  We ask that you bless this child with the gifts of love, wisdom, health and joy. (or any blessings of your choice)

Officiant anoints baby on feet, hands, forehead with blessed baby oil as she says:

We give thanks to God for ______________a beautiful child perfect in his/her parent’s eyes and hearts. ____________may you be blessed with a strong foundation of support from your extended family so that you may walk the Divine path meant for you (feet). May you be blessed with many gifts, concrete ones that can be held in your hands, but also those gifts of love, compassion and kindness that cannot be held, but must be shared (hands). May you be blessed with wisdom,  clarity of words, and the ability to see the wonder in the world (forehead).

(Child can be held towards each direction or friends and family light candles and read blessings.)

We present to you the gifts of the East and the element of Air, for openness and breath and communication of the heart. From the east you receive the understanding that each day is a new beginning.

We present to you the gifts of the South and the element of fire, for energy, creativity and the warmth of a loving home.

            We present to you the gifts of the West, the element of water, to keep your heart open and in emotional balance.

We present to you the gifts of the North, the element of earth, which provides sustenance and security. The earth will feed and enrich you, and provides a stable home to which you may always return.

(Child can be held towards each direction or friends and family light candles and read blessings.)   

The yellow candle represents the East, home of the rising Sun and the element of Air. This is the place of new beginnings, intelligence and learning. May you learn all that you are meant to and may you teach us as well.

The red candle represents the South, heat of the sun and the element of Fire. This is the place of movement and energy. May you be healthy and fit, full of energy.

The blue candle represents the West, the coolness of twilight and the element of Water. This is the place of emotion and intuition. May you know love, both on the giving and receiving end. May you always be able to hear that still inner voice that will guide you in the right direction.

The green candle represents the North, the time of planting, nurturing and rest and the element of Earth. This is the place of growth and abundance. May you grow strong and respectful of earth's creatures and plants. May you always have a loving home to return to.

The white candle represents God (Spirit, Mother Earth, Father Sky, the God and the Goddess and All That Is -edit as you see fit). This is the place that is not a place, yet is every place.  May you always know that that you are loved and protected by a Divine Source (edit as you see fit)

We ask God (Great Spirit/the Divine-edit as you see fit)  to bless this baby. May s/he be grounded in the sweet Mother Earth and have solid support for his/her growth. May the warmth of Grandfather Sun make him/her feel secure and loved. May the wisdom of Father Sky shine upon him/her so that  issues may be resolved as gently as a feather floats in the wind. May s/he be blessed by the light of Grandmother Moon reflecting the power and beauty of love.
