Option 1:
Jumping the broom is a symbol of fertility. Done as an act to honor the Ancestors, it also represents home and family.
Starting a new life together requires a “leap of faith”.  Jumping over the broom is symbolic of crossing a threshold into new territory, a life together; a life vitally connected to each other’s. They leave behind the past and jump into the future together secure in their love.   By taking the leap, they make a gesture of dedication in working together through the tough times, as well as the easy times. Please count with me now and shout with joy as they perform their first act of working together  1, 2, 3 jump!!
--------------------
Option 2
Historically “jumping the broom” can be found in many countries and cultures. Charles Dickens wrote about it in Great Expectations. In Wales,  Romani couples would elope by "jumping the broom," In Ghana,  brooms had spiritual value and were waved over the heads of married couples to sweep away past wrongs or evil spirits. In Christian ceremonies the broom handle represents God and the straw bristles represent family.  Ribbons tied on the broom can represent well wishes of the guests or the ties that bind the couple. Pagans consider the broom to be the perfect balance of the masculine and the feminine.
As (      ) and (         ) jump the broom, they work as a team, spiritually crossing the matrimonial threshold, making a clean sweep of the old and making room for beautiful blessings to come into their lives.
Maya Angelou wrote "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope."
(   ) and (      ) make your jump together into the future…….1….2…..3……jump

Option 3

References to couples jumping the broom can be found in many cultures. Charles Dickens wrote about it in Great Expectations. In Wales couples would elope by "jumping the broom," In Ghana,  brooms had spiritual value and were waved over the heads of married couples to sweep away past wrongs or evil spirits. Pagans consider the broom to be the perfect balance of the masculine and the feminine.

Option 4
Jumping the broom requires the couple to work together as a team, as together they symbolically jump the marital threshold.

Regina Hill wrote
When two people join together
and bond their lives forever
because they are certain they have something special
that will make their commitment last…
this is the first act of faith. Upon this act of faith these two people will build a life.
and as long as their determination stays with them
this life will always be their hope, their dreams, their truth, their being, their inspiration,
and their source of strength.
Through their life together, they will hurt and laugh.
Together they will feel all of life’s up and downs.
They will learn and grow through trial and error.
The lessons will show them the meaning of true love
And the difference between a love that lasts
and one that just gives up.
These two people will face each failure together and
discover the strength to go on.
They will encourage each others dreams and forgive each others faults.
Through a labor of love.
these two will become as one,
fighting against the odds and ultimately creating
a commitment that will grow into an infinite love

As (      ) and (         ) jump the broom, they take a leap of faith. Faith in each other, faith in family, faith in God and faith in the future.  Help me to count to three as they prepare to jump …….1….2…..3……jump !
